New Cable Modem
August 30, 2005 on 4:51 pm | In Computer | No CommentsHaving been disconnected from the network more than handful of times a day, I finally got a new cable modem from Comcast on last Friday. After the installation of the new modem, I have never had a disconnection issue. The new Motorola modem rocks!
CRT Monitor
August 26, 2005 on 3:29 am | In Computer | No CommentsAfter four and half years of use, my 19 inch NEC monitor finally got to the point where I can’t stand using it anymore. It started having trouble getting the vertical sync last January, and it has got worse and worse since then. I’ve been a heavy user of the monitor, but it should last much longer than four years. Aren’t Japanese products very reliable and last very long? Because it’s so frustrating, I finally placed an ordered for a 20 inch LCD panel at Dell. After 25% back to school discount, the price was $561. I think it’s the best deal for a UXGA LCD panel. Until it arrives, I use the 17 inch monitor which I got it for free from a fellow grad student.
China as a threat
August 8, 2005 on 5:10 pm | In Politics | No CommentsChina is a troubling country. About a month ago, a senior Chinese general said that it would retariate with nukes if the U.S. was involved in the Taiwan strait conflict by firing ammunition to Chinese territory (CNN’s report on this). Hasn’t China been saying that it would not use nukes unless other country attacked it with nukes? A recent statement by CIA that the actual Chinese military budget could be three times as big as the published one reinforces the threat of China. Certainly China denied the statement and criticized the U.S. of being anti-China, but we really can’t trust what a totalitarian country says. The first world countries should not allow the rise of China unless it would become a democratic country, otherwise the world would become totally unstable.
Wikipedia
August 6, 2005 on 4:34 pm | In Misc | No CommentsI’m really tired of anti-Japanese crowds on Wikipedia. Most of them are Chinese cultured and they seem to deeply hate Japan and Japanese. The biggest problem is that there are very few Japanese contributors to correct their distorted views.
Green Chile
August 5, 2005 on 11:21 pm | In Misc | No CommentsI cooked green chile pasta in this evening. It’s pepperonicini except that I used roasted green chile instead of red chile. It looked yummy, and I started eating it. But it was so hot! I had totally forgotten how hot green chile is. I drank a lot of ice tea to finish it. I hope it will be milder when it gets chilled.
