New Blog

Finally I migrated my blog to WordPress. Since WordPress’s license is GPL, I won’t have a situation I faced with MovableType. With the help of the MT importer , I was able to move all entries to WordPress.

10.3.6

Since I installed the 10.3.6 update on my iBook, I’ve been feeling the slowness of the graphics. I’ve noticed several users reported the same issue, and they claim that machines with ATI GPUs have this issue. Mine uses Mobile Radeon 7500. Up until 10.3.6 the graphics driver have been really stable on my Mac, but now I hate it. Is it Apple’s fault, or ATI’s fault?

Framebuffer console

November 18, 2004 on 3:18 am | In Computer | No Comments

I’ve been working on fixing the framebuffer console bug, but I haven’t identified the cause of the bug. I don’t understand why the modular_vesa patch fails only when the module is built into kernel. I removed the modular_vesafb patch and recompiled the kernel. The big console screen finally came back.

Kernel 2.6.9

November 7, 2004 on 7:04 pm | In Computer | No Comments

I built and installed a debian version of kernel 2.6.9. After rebooting the machine, the framebuffer console didn’t apperar on the screen. I was suprised because I just copied .config from the original 2.6.9 tree and it worked flawlessly. I double checked the kernel config, but the vesa framebuffer support is enabled. So I went to Debian Bug Tracking System and found a relevant entry. It must be a debian patch issue, but it is not resolved yet. I may have to go back to the original 2.6.9 since the no console is a big pain.

Duplexer

November 5, 2004 on 9:50 pm | In Computer | No Comments

Today I received a new two-sided printing module which I purchased (not a real bidding…) at eBay. It was the first time to buy an item at eBay, so I was bit nervous, but the transaction went very smoothly. The duplexer works great. I can do two-sided printing from Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It takes a bit longer than printing odd pages and then flip the papers and slide them in the tray to print even pages, but the fact that I don’t have to worry about flipping paper is rewarding.
